Illinois State University president Terri Goss Kinzy shockingly resigned from her post Wednesday afternoon after less than two years in the position.
ISU’s Board of Trustees announced that Kinzy resigned from her position Feb. 14. The board’s upcoming meeting on the 17 will hold a vote to amicably terminate Kinzy’s contract and vote to name Vice President of Academic Affairs Aondover Tarhule term president. Pending the necessary vote, Tarhule would be named Interm president immediately lasting until June 30, 2024.
Kinzy was named the first women president and ISU’s 20th president on May 14, 2021.
“It has been an honor to serve the Illinois State University community as its 20th President,” Kinzy said. “I have enjoyed the opportunity to engage with Illinois State students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends and being a part of this thriving academic community. At this time, I intend to pursue other opportunities.”
Under her original agreement, Kinzy was slated to serve until the summer of 2025. Before her time as president, Kinzy was Vice President of Research and Innovation at Western Michigan University. Prior to that, she held multiple positions at Rutgers University.
An announcement about a replacement committee will be announced at a later date by ISU’s Board of Directors.
