What Happens Next to Your Halloween Pumpkin?

By Wes Styles Nov 4, 2022 | 1:16 PM

Halloween is over. Have a pumpkin on your porch? What do you do with it now?

The City of Bloomington put out some tips for disposal. If the pumpkin is still in good shape and has not been compromised by candles, paint/spray paint, or anything else that may have been added that might be toxic or inedible it can be donated to Miller Park Zoo for animal enrichment and consumption. Also, if the pumpkin is rotting or moldy it cannot be eaten by the animals. The Zoo will accept pumpkin donations in the back of the zoo, off Morris Avenue, next to the employee parking lot.

If your pumpkin isn’t in the consumable category, the City considers pumpkins in the class of garden trimmings so they will be picked up with brush but SHOULD NOT be mixed with your leaves.

The Jack-O-Lanterns can also be tossed in with your regular trash.
