Blackhawks hang on back-to-back games for weekend sweep
The Chicago Blackhawks played a pair of hard-fought games this weekend as they took down the Detroit Redwings and Seatle Kraken. On Friday Sam Lafferty’s second multi-goal game led the Blackhawks over the Redwings in overtime. Max Domi put the nail in the coffin in overtime to win 4-3. On Sunday the Blackhawks outlasted the Kraken 5-4 in regulation. Five different players scored a goal to take down Seattle.
Bulls swept by Wizards, Cavs over weekend
After an opening day win over the Miami Heat on opening day, the Chicago Bulls hit a skid this weekend as they dropped two games. On Friday, the Bulls went down to the wire as they were down to their final shot after a Bradley Beal lay-in bucket. After a timeout, Demar DeRozen went for a game-winning three, but a no-foul secured the 102-100 win for the Washington Wizards. Looking to bounce back at home, the Bulls’ troubles got worse as the Cleveland Cavaliers took a commanding 128-96 win. The Bulls return to action on Monday at home against the Boston Celtics.
Illinois State spoils Sycamores homecoming
Illinois State traveled to Terre Haute Indiana to take down Indiana State 27-21 during the Sycamores homecoming. After receiving votes in the top 25 a week prior, the Redbirds strengthened their case after a strong defensive showing. Dominating early, the Redbirds jumped out to a 20-0 lead. Back-to-back scores from the Sycamores shortened ISU’s lead to 20-14. With the Sycamores in the hunt, the Redbirds quickly capitalized in the fourth quarter with a rushing touchdown from quarterback Zack Annexstad to secure the win. The performance secured Annexstad the Missouri Valley Football Conference Newcomer of the Week Award.
IWU dominates Carthage in 56-0 win
Illinois Wesleyan was unstoppable on Saturday as they took down Carthage 56-0. Backed by three interceptions, IWU dominated in all three aspects of the game. Titan’s starting quarterback Jay Lemenager finished the game with four passing touchdowns.
Normal West hangs on to stay undefeated at Centennial
It went down to the wire in Normal West’s 7-0 win over Centennial Friday night. Scoreless through three quarters the Wildcats struck with a touchdown to take the lead. The Chargers had no response to the Wildcats’ defense and secured Normal West’s perfect conference record. The win secured the No. 3 seed in the IHSA playoffs.
Normal Community’s strong first half secures win
Normal Community dominated Manual 49-8 before the Ironmen head to the IHSA playoffs. The Ironmen grabbed a trio of touchdowns in the first quarter before grabbing four more in the second quarter. Manual managed to grab a touchdown in the fourth quarter, but it did not make a difference.
Bloomington High School finishes season with loss
Bloomington High School finished its season Friday night with a 47-20 loss to Mahomet-Seymour High School. MSHS’s starting quarterback Wyatt Bohm finished the game passing for four touchdowns. The Purple Raiders finished the season with a 3-6 record.
Bears set for Monday night football
For the final time this season, the Chicago Bears will headline prime time as they take on the New England Patriots on the road Monday night. Sitting at 2-4, the Bears are looking to improve their record against the 3-3 Patriots.
