Headless Sex Doll Scares Beachgoers, Happy Birthday to the Hashtag # - Styles Headlines for August 23

Here’s some what we covered (and a bit more) from Tuesday’s show:

Not-So-Living Dead Girl – Tourists on a beach in eastern Thailand thought they’d stumbled onto a dead body on the rocks — only to learn it was discarded sex doll. The doll, which sells for more than $500, was missing it’s head. Police was it now in the lost property room awaiting the owner to come claim it.

Kindness Matters – It’s the thought that counts. No, really! A new study reveals that when it comes to random acts of kindness, recipients appreciate the gesture more than the actual gift. In fact, recipients feel so good about your kindness, they’re more apt to pass that positivity along. The researchers say that these small actions have a large impact, and that a little good goes an extremely long way. So be kind, do something nice for someone, or pay it forward. We all benefit!

Big Fowl Mac – Soon you’ll be able to get a Big Mac that doesn’t feature two all-beef patties but two tempura chicken patties. Say what? It seems that the Chicken Big Mac was a bit hit in the UK and sold out in just 10 days, so Mickey D’s figures it should cross the pond to us. They said right now they’re just testing the Chicken Big Mac to gather feedback, but it looks like another entry for the chicken sandwich wars. Don’t ya think?

Pay No Play – A Pennsylvania man who hired a sex worker ended up with a really unhappy ending. The dude paid her $200 and she immediately left… that’s when he called the cops. Well, he was charged with a number of things, including hiring a prostitute and holding the woman against her will.

15TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE HASHTAG — 15 years ago today, the first hashtag was used on Twitter. It was the idea of computer engineer Chris Messina who thought it would be a good way to categorize everyone’s tweets and create group messages. The ‘number sign’ had been used years earlier on Internet Relay Chat groups to label topics, so it made sense to computer nerds. Before it was known as a ‘hashtag’, us ‘old folks’ called it the ‘pound’ symbol (mostly referring to the button on a phone keypad).

Gossip, Gossip – 55% of Americans admit they like to gossip, even if it’s just a little bit. That includes the 1 in 20 people who say they love to.

Kids are Expensive – According to a new estimate, raising a kid now costs $310,000 to raise a child. That works out to roughly $18,000 per year through age 17.
