At today’s Ferrero press conference Governor Pritzker was asked about the new gun bill that was announced by a bipartisan group of senators. Pritzker says ‘it’s not enough. We do more in the state of Illinois than being promised in that packaged. But progress is progress.’ He continues by saying ‘there’s more to do.’
A follow question included the gun violence in Chicago and the amount of confiscated guns to which the Governor replied ’60 percent of the guns recovered come from out of state.’
Among other provisions announced Sunday was funding for mental health, incentives for the creation of so-called “red flag” laws to remove firearms from people who are a danger to themselves or others, increase money for school safety and strengthen the federal background check system as it relates to convicted domestic violence abusers or those with restraining orders.
